Standard services
Screenings below are included in the basic package.
- Vision screenings
Each child’s eyes are screened using a handheld, portable device that quickly and easily detects vision issues from a nonthreatening three-foot distance. This screening supports the AAP guidelines for early detection of risk factors.
- Hearing screenings
We use the pure-tone testing method. Headphones will be placed over the child’s ears, and the child will communicate with the healthcare provider what they hear.
- Dental screenings
Dental hygienists will lead a team that will perform a visual screening of the child’s mouth to detect abscesses or other major problems. Students are then referred to their dentist for further evaluation and treatment.
- BMI screenings
Students will be screened for height and weight in a safe, comfortable, confidential environment to provide parents with information on whether the child is underweight, overweight or obese.
- Blood pressure screenings
Students’ blood pressure will be recorded to ensure it falls in the normal range. Early detection is especially important with high blood pressure. If the child has high blood pressure, they will be referred to their pediatrician for further evaluation and possible tests to see if there is an underlying medical condition.

- Healthy habits presentation
Informative presentation highlights healthy habits such as proper handwashing and tooth brushing, which can be vital to reducing a child’s risk of infections and disease. Students receive a take-away bag with tooth brushing supplies, hand sanitizer and more.
- Teacher presentations (available only in the Oklahoma City metro area)
During this presentation led by a local physician and nurse, teachers and staff will learn basic first aid, how to watch for some of the most common medical problems in schools and how to respond and treat children during an emergency.
